Pedro Pascal Fans Skeptical After New ‘Fantastic Four’ Trailer
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
When the news that Pedro Pascal was cast as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) from The Fantastic Four was announced in 2024, his fans were divided about the choice, and things haven’t changed much since.
Fans of the 49-year-old actor got their first look at the trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps, and some of them are still concerned that he’s not the best casting choice to play the classic Marvel Comics superhero.
The teaser, which was released on Tuesday, February 4, opens with Pascal’s Reed Richards and Vanessa Kirby’s Susan Storm (Invisible Woman) giving a news reporter a tour around the Baxter Building (a fictional office building in New York in the comics where Richards lives and has a laboratory). The trailer also gives fans a look at the other members of the team — Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm (The Thing) and Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) — with a bonus look at Galactus, the villain of the movie voiced by Ralph Ineson.

Fans of the Chilean-American actor shared their reactions to seeing Pascal in action as the head of “Marvel’s First Family” in a discussion about the subject in the Marvel sub on Reddit.
“It’s… a little jarring so far. I almost wonder if what I’m feeling is just a little Pascal fatigue. He’s an incredible actor, but when he’s the face of so many properties, it becomes hard to fully get immersed. Instead of Reed Richards, I’m seeing Pedro Pascal. Hopefully that changes over time,” wrote one fan who wasn’t sold by Pascal’s appearance in the trailer.
“I think he’s an excellent actor, but nothing has sold me on him as Reed yet. I don’t know why. Maybe if I see more of him in the role,” a second, more hopeful fan noted.
A third fan admitted, “[I] felt bad about [the casting choice] at the first reveal, but then it really fit the classic vibe of the trailer.”
A fourth fan who doesn’t agree with the rest said they had other concerns about the movie and wrote, “I think he looks fine. I don’t think he looks super close to Reed in the comics, but I think pulling off the character is much more important than looking like whatever dead actor Kirby modeled Reed after, and Pascal does a great job communicating emotional depth. More concerned about the script than casting, but hoping for the best.”
Like it or not, Pascal is going to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Reed Richards. in 2024 is slated to premiere on July 25, 2025.
