Phillies Players Admit New Closer Jhoan Duran Makes Their Jobs Much Easier

Jhoan Duran has been with the Philadelphia Phillies for a very brief time, and his impact is being felt already.

In his short tenure with the team, he’s already made two appearances and thrown scoreless outings in each of them. His teammates are feeling the relief of having an effective closer on the mound.

“It’s nice just having a guy that’s had that role, feels good in it and is confident,” Trea Turner told Matt Gelb of The Athletic. “It’s fun playing behind him. If you get beat, you get beat. But, like, it doesn’t feel like you’re going to beat yourself, you know?”

“We have some really good leverage arms back there, and you’re going to be able to put them in some really favorable matchups,” Kyle Schwarber told Gelb. “Set them up for a lot of success. I like the way our pen’s going to be structured. I really do. We have a lot of belief in those guys back there. Those guys are going to be counted on, especially down here in the stretch.”

Duran is already settling in with the Phillies as they push for the National League East title. He knows he’s going to be an important part of their quest for the division as they battle with the New York Mets.

The 27-year-old reliever has been one of the best in the game this year with his ERA sitting at 1.93 entering Tuesday. He’s under team control through the 2027 season, so Phillies fans have their shutdown bullpen arm for the foreseeable future.
