The Kyle Schwarber free agency sweepstakes is going to be one of the more intriguing storylines of the offseason. Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently projected Schwarber would sign a massive $160 million deal this offseason, which would make him one of the highest-paid designated hitters in history.
The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the top suitors for Schwarber this winter. In fact, they should be looked at as the heavy favorites to sign the slugger.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter recently projected Schwarber would re-sign with the Phillies in free agency, which would be a huge move for them to make.
“With Nick Castellanos expected to be released and Harrison Bader gone in free agency, a new-look Phillies lineup awaits in 2026,” Reuter wrote. “That said, their top priority is still re-signing Kyle Schwarber, and they also need to either bring back J.T. Realmuto or find another outside addition with no clear replacement behind the plate.”
Schwarber is a fan favorite and an MVP candidate for the Phillies. He finished second in the National League MVP voting this season, which should drive his price up in free agency.
His value might be up, but the Phillies need to pay him what he’s worth, even if it’s $160 million.
There are a few other suitors in the league for the slugger, but none of them make as much sense as the Phillies.
