Potapi: Government providing Hungarians abroad with study grants
The Hungarian government has launched a website for Hungarians abroad wishing to apply to attend Hungarian-language schools and universities.
Applications can be submitted by May 3 at mipont.hu, Arpad Janos Potapi, the state secretary in charge of policies for Hungarian communities abroad, told a press conference. He said Hungarian-language education was key to the future of the Hungarian nation in the Carpathian Basin, which is why the government is providing study grants for places in kindergartens, schools and universities, he said.
Around 220,000 ethnic Hungarian children and students in Transylvania, southern Slovakia, Vojvodina, the Transcarpathian region and Croatia can now receive a grant of 100,000 forints (EUR 254), up from 22,500 forints previously, Potapi said.
