Consumer prices were 3.0% higher on average in September 2024 than a year earlier. Over one month, they decreased by 0.1% on average, within which motor fuels became 3.7% cheaper, the Central Statistical Office said.
In 12 months, compared to September 2023 a price increase of 3.7% was recorded for food, within which 32.9% for flour, 13.8% for milk, 10.1% for chocolate and cocoa, 8.5% for fruit and vegetable juices, 7.6% for meals at restaurants, 6.9% for meals at schools and 6.7% for edible oil. Within the product group, the price of pasta products decreased by 5.8%, that of sugar by 3.6%, eggs prices by 3.5%, the price of poultry meat by 2.4% and that of milk products by 1.0%.
Services became 8.4% more expensive, within which rents were up by 10.7%, motorway use, renting a motor vehicle and parking became 10.6% more expensive, the maintenance costs of private houses grew by 10.5% and personal care services became 10.0%, the repair and maintenance of vehicles 9.9%, the repair and maintenance of dwellings 8.6%, other public entertainment tickets 8.1% and recreational services 3.8% more expensive.
Alcoholic beverage and tobacco prices rose by 3.9%, within which the price of alcoholic beverages by 4.4%. Electricity, gas and other fuels became 5.0%, within which natural and manufactured gas 9.4% and electricity 1.3% cheaper. Consumers paid 0.2% less for consumer durables, within which the price of second-hand passenger cars was cut by 6.1% and that of jewellery increased by 10.7%, new passenger car prices by 6.3%, the price of living and dining room furniture by 2.5% and that of kitchen and other furniture by 2.2%. Pharmaceutical products became 6.0% more expensive and motor fuels 9.5% cheaper.
In one month, compared to August 2024 consumer prices decreased by 0.1% on average. Food became 1.0% more expensive on average, within which milk cost 6.9%, butter 5.0%, milk products 3.2%, seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fresh domestic and tropical fruits in total) 2.9% and eggs 2.7% more and sugar 1.5%, poultry meat 1.1% and pork 0.6% less for consumers.
Consumers paid 0.2% more for electricity, gas and other fuels, within which firewood became 2.6% and butane and propane gas 1.1% more expensive and natural and manufactured gas 0.1% cheaper (Press release). Motor fuel prices decreased by 3.7%. Service prices became 0.8% lower on average, within which the price of recreational services – due to seasonal effects – 14.0% lower.
