Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Colombia Tour in Photos
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tour of Colombia this month saw the couple take on 12 engagements over four days across the cities of Bogotá, Cartagena and Cali, all at the invitation of the country’s vice president, Francia Márquez.
The tour saw the couple engage with the primary philanthropic causes they have prioritized since their split from the monarchy in 2020, which include creating a safer online future for children, empowering the voices of women and girls and the Invictus Games veterans event.
Here, Newsweek takes a look at Harry and Meghan’s Colombian tour in photos.
Vice Presidential Greeting
Upon Harry and Meghan’s arrival in Colombia’s capital city of Bogotá on August 15, they were greeted by Márquez, who told the media she had been inspired to invite the duchess to see Colombia after watching the couple’s 2022 Netflix show.
School Visit
After their welcome, the couple visited local charter school, Colegio Cultura Popular, where they met teachers and students and participated in an “Insight Session” discussing social media use.
Embracing Colombian Culture
The couple’s third engagement of the day saw them take part in a Colombian cultural showcase at the Centro Nacional de las Artes Delia Zapata Olivella. Harry and Meghan witnessed dance and performance displays and met with local community members.
A Safer Online Future
The final engagement of the couple’s first day in Colombia saw them take part in the “Summit on a Responsible Digital Future” hosted at the Universidad EAN.
During a panel discussion, Harry and Meghan reflected on the importance of creating a safer online culture and future for the sake of society’s youngest and most vulnerable members.
Stellar Students
Day two of Harry and Meghan’s visit to Colombia saw them visit the Colegio La Giralda school in the town of Santa Fe, where they spent time with students at their historical memory museum, learning about the country’s rich history.
Invictus Inspiration
The couple’s final engagement in the city of Bogotá was spent at the Centro de Rehabilitación Inclusiva, where they observed a training session with the Invictus Games’ Team Colombia.
So far, Colombia is the only South American country to send a regular delegation to the veterans sports event founded by Harry in 2014, and the couple met with organizers and participants.
Drumming Duke and Duchess
For their first event in the city of Cartagena, on day three of their Colombian tour, Harry and Meghan toured local drum school, Escuela Tambores de Cabildo, where they took part in traditional musical exercises.
San Basilio de Palenque
The couple were then joined by the vice president for a tour of the first free African town in the Americas named San Basilio de Palenque.
Afro-Descendant Women and Power
The final day of the Colombia tour saw Meghan participate in the “Afro-Descendant Women and Power: Voice of Equity” panel held in the city of Cali.
The duchess discussed her own experiences using her voice to create positive change, and referenced daughter, Princess Lilibet, as having “found her voice” at the age of three.
Dancing Royals
At the Unidad Recreativa El Vallado in Cali, Harry and Meghan met with young people participating in a range of dance classes and activities.
The couple displayed their own dance moves in a brief freestyle activity which they ended with a kiss.
Festival Farewell
Harry and Meghan ended their Colombian tour with a visit to the Petronio Alvarez Pacific Music Festival in Cali alongside Márquez.
