Puppy’s Reason for Pretending To Be ‘Lazy’ Leaves Viewers in Hysterics
Getting to roam and explore outside should be rather exciting for young pups, but TikTok users can’t get enough of one puppy’s dramatic reaction to having to face the outside world.
TikTok user @momma2pitties shared a hilarious video showing just how difficult it was to try to get Poppi the rescue pit bull to go outside. The sweet pup needed to brave the outdoors to go to the bathroom, but the 5-month-old rescue had other things in mind.
When Poppi was gently placed on the grass, she simply flopped to the ground and rolled onto her back instead. Indeed, laying in the grass seemed far more desirable for Poppi, who refused to budge. Indeed, when her owner lifted her up and tried to get the dog to stand, she magically lost all strength and continued to flop over once more.
Since the video was shared online on June 5, it has delighted internet users and gained more than 165,000 views and over 28,800 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

The caption alongside the clip jokes: “We will now call her Floppy Poppi! At 5 months old, she is super dramatic when she wants to be lazy.”
Oftentimes, dogs will roll onto their back as a signal that they want fuss and some hard-earned belly scratches (because there can never be too many belly rubs). But as explained by the American Kennel Club (AKC), it is a far more complicated signal and can have a variety of meanings.
It could also be a sign that pups want to play, especially if they are doing this action around puppies or small dogs. It is a friendly posture that invites others to join in. It could also be a sign that the pup is attempting to gain a playful advantage over their opponent. Rolling onto their back during play is often a way for dogs to launch their own playful attack.
Aside from instigating a playfight, laying on their back could be a sign that the dog has an itch they want to scratch; that they are displaying a dismissive behavior to show that they mean no harm; or they may potentially be expressing fear. Sometimes, dogs will lay on their back to diffuse or prevent aggression, especially if they haven’t received enough socialization.
Ultimately, owners should read their dog’s overall body language to ask themselves why their pet is laying on their back. Is their tongue hanging out of their mouth and their tail wagging? Chances are, that is one happy dog in need of a belly scratch. If they look stiff or nervous, they may not feel at ease and there could be something wrong.
Since Poppi went viral for refusing to stand up unattended, the TikTok video has gained over 1,000 comments in just a matter of days. Many social-media users were desperate for an update, leaving Poppi’s owner to confirm that her dog didn’t manage to go to the bathroom on that occasion, despite being “fully capable of going potty.”
Among the responses on the post, one TikTok user commented: “I love her. She is clearly having a no bones day.”
Another person replied: “I think it’s broken.”
A third TikTok user commented: “Did you try putting her in rice?”
One comment reads: “have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?”
