Red Bull Makes Awkward Instagram Mistake: ‘Admin Forgot They Were On Main’
Red Bull Racing’s Instagram admin might have had to answer some tough questions from the team after an awkward mistake was spotted by a fan on Reddit. Red Bull posted the Australian Grand Prix Free Practice 1 results on Instagram, with Max Verstappen securing P5 while Liam Lawson managed P16. However, a fan made a comment on the post referencing former Red Bull driver Sergio Perez, and the comment received a like from the official Red Bull admin.
A fan uploaded the screenshot of the like as proof on Reddit, which attracted considerable attention. Perez was dropped by Red Bull following a disappointing 2024 season, and Lawson’s P16 FP1 finish echoed some of the struggles Perez faced. The comment on Instagram read: “Close enough, welcome back Checo,” a sarcastic remark that caught attention after it appeared to be liked by the official Red Bull Racing account.
On Reddit, the post has received several reactions, with many pointing out the grave blunder while others wondered whose side the admin was on. Some noteworthy comments are mentioned below:

The Instagram Red Bull admin might have genuinely forgotten they were on the main account:
“Admin forgot they were on main” [sic]
Another comment pointed out that Lawson being made fun of by Red Bull is something else:
“Being cooked by his own team is wild” [sic]
Yuki Tsunoda might be a happy man if he goes through this thread:
“Yuki suddenly realizing that not getting promoted to RBR isn’t such a bad fate after all” [sic]
If this is true, Lawson might need to brace himself:
“To make matters worse for Lawson, he hasn’t driven an F1 car on all of the upcoming tracks.”
Pray you must:
“A Red Bull intern died for our sins for this incredible meme” [sic]
This is a fair comment:
“Too early to judge” [sic]
Red Bull lost the 2024 Constructors’ Championship to McLaren after suffering from balance problems on the RB20 F1 car. However, while Verstappen still managed to win the drivers’ championship through his racing prowess, Perez’s underperformance meant the team parted ways with him.
Lawson, who raced for Red Bull junior team VCARB alongside Yuki Tsunoda in the second half of last year, was being assessed for a promotion. Tsunoda was also in the mix for a promotion, but in the end, Red Bull placed Lawson alongside Verstappen for 2025, citing his ability to perform under pressure.
Although Lawson had a less-than-ideal start to the Australian Grand Prix weekend, he is a rookie driver and will take some time adjusting to the Red Bull F1 car.
