Sam Leavitt Sends Clear Message to Arizona State After Transferring to LSU
Sam Leavitt began his college football career as a true freshman in the Big Ten at Michigan State, where he saw limited action, appearing in four games during the season.
After just one year, he decided to transfer to Arizona State to join head coach Kenny Dillingham—a move that proved to be the best decision of his career to this point.
As a sophomore, Leavitt helped lead the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff and, over the past two seasons, threw for more than 4,000 yards, 34 touchdowns, and just nine interceptions, establishing himself as one of the premier quarterbacks in college football.
Despite that success, Leavitt entered the transfer portal again this offseason. Ranked as the No. 1 quarterback available, he ultimately transferred to LSU after being recruited by new head coach Lane Kiffin.

However, after several days committed to LSU, Leavitt publicly addressed his departure from Arizona State with a clear message for head coach Kenny Dillingham and the Sun Devils amid the criticism he has received for leaving.
“As I reflect on my last two years, all I can think of is my gratitude for ASU,” Leavitt posted on Instagram. “My teammates, coaches, fans, and support system changed my life forever. People have a lot to say, but I’ve got nothing but love for the program and only want to see success. #SunDevil4Life.”
Leavitt still has two years of eligibility remaining and wasn’t the only quarterback to head to Baton Rouge this offseason. He was joined by five-star redshirt freshman Husan Longstreet, as well as Landen Clark, a transfer from Elon.
