Scottie Scheffler’s Amazing Reaction at Scottish Open Becomes a Meme

Scottie Scheffler’s putting at the Genesis Scottish Open was once again a sign that he’s human after all. Although it wasn’t one of his worst putting performances, the ultra-competitive Scheffler was deeply frustrated with his work on the greens, especially during the fourth round.

Such displays of discontent aren’t common for him, but most fans love them, as they bring the World No. 1 down to Earth from time to time. One that’s now iconic occurred on the 13th green during the final round of the Scottish Open, going so viral that it’s become a meme.

Scheffler had an 8-foot birdie putt. The execution of the shot looked perfect; you can even see that the ball broke in the right direction, but not far enough, and just missed the edge of the hole.

That’s when Scheffler reacted, opening his arms and seemingly signaling the full amount of room the ball had to hit the hole, rather than ‘choosing’ to go wide.

Fair enough, Scheffler parred the hole on his way to a final round 67. His performance for the day included an eagle, three birdies, and two bogeys.

The Ridgewood, New Jersey, native lost 1.455 strokes with his putting, ranking 64th among all members of the field. Despite this, he finished tied for eighth, making up for it with his extraordinary work approaching the green (six strokes gained) and off-the-tee (2.859 strokes gained).

Scottie Scheffler “Really Close” Ahead of The Open Championship

Like most of his peers, Scottie Scheffler will travel from Scotland to Northern Ireland to play in the Open Championship at Royal Portrush this week.

The three-time major champion will be among the favorites for the title, especially considering that his performance at the Scottish Open appeared to be an ‘adjustment’ in preparation for the season’s fourth major.

“Definitely got adjusted to the time zone. I feel like I did some good stuff this week,” he said.

“It was unusually warm this week. We’ll see what the weather is like next week but overall, I could have played a little bit better this week. But overall, pleased with how I played the last couple days.”

“I feel like I’m really close. I feel like I was close to playing some really good golf. Just got to get some momentum.”

Scheffler has finished in the top 25 in all 15 tournaments he has played this season. The Genesis Scottish Open was his 10th consecutive top-10 finish, including all three of his wins of the year.

It is that level of consistency that puts him head and shoulders above every golfer alive.
