‘Stranger Things’ Star Sadie Sink Cast In ‘Spider-Man 4’

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

She’s been to the upside-down and now she’s heading to Earth-616. “Stranger Things” star Sadie Sink has been cast in the upcoming “Spider-Man 4,” Deadline reports. Production on the fourth film in the series is set to move forward later this year after Tom Holland finishes up his time making “The Odyssey” with Christopher Nolan.

Many fans seem to believe Sink will introduce Jean Grey of “X-Men” fame to the MCU, a character previously played by Sophie Turner and Famke Janssen. But that fan casting seems to have more to do with her hair color than anything else. Not to mention that a “Spider-Man” film seems a strange place to introduce Jean Grey or any of the X-Men.

Deadline hints that she could be playing Mary Jane Watson, even though Zendaya had taken on the equivalent of that role in earlier “Spider-Man” movies.

Marvel

Of course, if “Spider-Man 4” – like its predecessor “Spider-Man: No Way Home” – deals heavily with the multiverse, we could learn Sink is playing an alternate version of Zendaya’s character.

It’s also good to remember that because of the spell cast by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) at the end of “No Way Home,” no one remembers who Peter Parker is and so his usual castmates may have reduced roles. Whoever Sink is playing she’s likely there to fill that void.

“Spider-Man 4” will mark Tom Holland’s fourth solo film as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and his seventh overall appearance in the MCU. He first appeared in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War” and later in both “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” It’s almost a certainty we can expect to see him in “Avengers: Doomsday” and/or “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

Later this year, fans will finally get to see Sadie Sink in the fifth and final season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” The first six episodes will be released on Netflix on October 10, while the final 2 will stream Nov. 27.

Season 4 of “Stranger Things” released three years ago, in the summer of 2022. Sink enjoyed a much more prominent role than in Season 3, owing to her character being the target of Jamie Campbell Bower’s Vecna.

“Spider-Man 4” is currently set to hit theaters July 31, 2026. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing and most of the details about the film have been kept under wraps.
