Super Bowl LIX: Biggest Winners and Losers From Eagles Routing of Chiefs
In what was the most shocking twist of the 2024 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs were completely routed by the Philadelphia Eagles. The entire football-loving world thought the game would be far closer, but the Chiefs looked lost throughout the entire affair.

There is a lot that happened in the biggest game of the year, and here is a look at the biggest winners and losers from Super Bowl LIX.
Losers
The Chiefs
It’s hard to imagine the Chiefs being embarrassed in a game, let alone the biggest game of the season. The 2024 season saw Kansas City battle it out with practically every opponent, winning by one score or less in multiple games. This time, they faced too strong of an opponent to win by one score, or even score more than once.

More news:
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes looked lost through most of the game, and the Chiefs’ offensive line apparently forgot how to protect the team’s most valuable asset. Mahomes took over five sacks, and couldn’t find any time to make plays consecutively.
Mahomes and company were able to get some plays going in the third quarter, which was their lone touchdown, but that was nowhere near enough.
Mahomes can often figure out ways to score, but he has been under duress so much that he looked nothing like his normal self.
Travis Kelce
There were rumors that Travis Kelce was considering retirement following a win at the Super Bowl. Considering the Chiefs were completely routed, it would be tragic if Kelce were to walk away from his career with such a terrible loss.
Steve Spagnuolo
Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is typically one of the best defensive minds in the game. It is his coaching mind that has led to the Chiefs coming away with so many close victories.
Super Bowl LIX was not his shining moment. The Chiefs’ defense couldn’t stop the Eagles at all, though they do get points for keeping Saquon Barkley under 100 yards.
Winners
Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts played one of the best games of his young career and showed up when it mattered. Though he had a costly interception early on, Hurts played some fantastic football.
When the Chiefs silenced Barkley on the ground, Hurts stepped in to secure chunk yardage on the ground. Hurts literally and figuratively ran away with the Super Bowl MVP award, and for good reason.
Vic Fangio
Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio returned to the Eagles after a short stint with the Miami Dolphins. Despite the consensus being that he was a tough and older mind, Fangio turned Philadelphia’s defensive unit into one of the most feared.
The Eagles’ defense was all over Mahomes and the offense, stifling their playmaking ability at every turn. This was pure dominance, and Fangio coached this unit to absolute perfection.
Nick Sirianni
Nick Siranni had a lot to fix the last time the Eagles faced the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The final score of 38-35 had to sting, and that could be the motivation he needed to correct his coaching to allow him to take down his biggest adversary.
The Eagles have been to two Super Bowls under Sirianni, and are now 1-1 in those appearances. Philadelphia was being counted out by a lot of people, but they showed up in the biggest way possible.
Sirianni was also on the “hot seat.” Now, that seat had better be the coolest thing on the planet.
Saquon Barkley
Saquon Barkley went from being essentially dumped by the New York Giants, to having a career year with the Eagles. He secured 2,005 rushing yards in the regular season, and secured the record for the most rushing yards in a single season, beating Terrell Owens.
Barkley transformed the Eagles’ offense into a monster that many couldn’t stop. That was clearly the case for the Chiefs in the biggest game of the season. Despite keeping him under 100 yards on the ground, he still made an impact.
