Survey: 76% of Hungarians think EU should contribute to border protection costs
A survey has found that Hungarians continue to support border protection measures and expect Brussels to contribute to border protection costs.
A recent survey by the Center for Fundamental Rights has found that 76 percent of voting-age Hungarians said that the EU should contribute to the costs of border protection measures against illegal migration.
The think-tank’s survey shows that Hungarians continue to support border protection measures and expect Brussels to contribute to border protection costs, which the Hungarian state has spent 800 billion forints on since 2015.
The survey also shows that 66 percent of respondents strongly reject as “unjust” the EU court’s 80 billion forint fine levied on Hungary and the additional 400 million forints the country is expected to pay for every subsequent day of non-compliance with the EU’s migration policy, it said.
The survey was conducted between Sept 16 and 18 with a representative sample of 1,000 adults.
