Szijjártó: Brussels has repeatedly shown that it only cares about Ukraine, while ignoring the problems of European people
Brussels has given countless signs that it is only interested in Ukraine and pays no attention whatsoever to the problems of European people, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó wrote on Facebook.
FM Szijjártó recalled that European farmers – including Hungarian farmers – have already experienced this attitude first-hand, for example through the brutal cuts to agricultural subsidies or when the European Commission allowed Ukraine to flood Central Europe with low-quality grain.
The foreign minister added that Brussels is now preparing another attack against farmers: on Thursday it plans to put to a vote and bring into force the EU–South America free trade agreement, which would deal another heavy blow to farmers by allowing unlimited imports of South American agricultural products into Europe, thereby endangering the livelihoods of European farmers.
“Hungary protests against this decision. We will not allow Brussels to once again disregard the interests of Hungarian farmers. We will vote no tomorrow and we will protect Hungarian farmers,” FM Szijjártó concluded.
