Szijjártó: Hungary and China are living through a record period of cooperation
The minister says both countries are ready to continue deepening ties and building on mutual success
Hungary and China are currently experiencing a record period in their bilateral cooperation, and both sides are prepared to continue and further strengthen these relations, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó declared on Wednesday in Beijing.
According to the ministry’s statement, FM Szijjártó congratulated Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on China’s 5.5 percent economic growth in the first half of the year, noting this created further opportunities for joint achievements. He stressed that in the first half of 2025, Chinese companies were once again the largest investors in Hungary, while bilateral trade expanded by five percent. He added that the Budapest–Belgrade railway construction would be completed by the end of the year.
The minister also pointed out that the number of Chinese tourists visiting Hungary rose by 44 percent, surpassing pre-pandemic levels, while around 2,600 Chinese students now study at Hungarian universities, making them the second-largest international student group. He welcomed China’s international efforts in support of peace, emphasizing that both countries belong to the “camp of peace.”
FM Szijjártó also met with executives from major Chinese companies including Xiaomi, Chervon Auto, and Wanhua, describing cooperation as a true success story. He highlighted that last year, around 31 percent of Chinese investments in Europe came to Hungary, with four of the five largest projects currently underway located there.
“Chinese investors will continue to provide a stable foundation for Hungarian-Chinese cooperation,” the minister concluded.
