Team USA Forced to Make Big Change After Gold Medal Win Over Canada
American hero Jack Hughes admitted the United States got outplayed during Sunday’s gold medal game against Canada, but that didn’t matter in the end as he delivered the game-winning goal in overtime.
“It doesn’t matter about the goal. Just an unbelievable team, unbelievable team win. And we’re just so proud to be American and win. We’re so proud to win for our country, and you know, just win for the USA Hockey brotherhood,” he said. “Listen, they probably outplayed us a little bit tonight. Our goalie stood on his head though, and then overtime we both have skilled players, so anything can happen.
It was the first gold medal win for the United States men’s hockey team since the Miracle on Ice in 1980 and saw Team USA exact revenge for its loss to Canada in the 4 Nations final last year. While they have a gold medal in hand, the Americans will be making a slight change to their travel plans following the game.

With a massive snowstorm striking the Northeast, Team USA won’t by flying back to New York City as expected. Instead they’re headed to warmer weather in Miami.
“Per the NBC broadcast, Team USA men’s hockey is flying back to Miami tomorrow instead of the New York City area due to snowstorms,” Florida Panthers writer Jordan McPherson noted on social media.
Brock Nelson, whose uncle (1980) and grandfather (1960) both won gold for Team USA hockey, admitted it’s tough to believe the win.
“It is unbelievable. A dream come true. Growing up, just seeing all the Olympians that came from Warroad (his high school) and what it meant to them, and what they meant to the community, I am forever grateful for that community back home. To be a part of that, I really can’t describe how special it is.”
Team USA might have to alter its travel plans, but the party is just beginning.
