Tears as Shelter Cat With Limp After ‘Horrible’ Past Hopes for New Home
Internet viewers are in tears after a cat who was thrown out of a car has found a forever home.
The tuxedo cat, known as Soy Sauce, was taken in by The Cat House Lounge in Illinois, where he lived as a foster, until finding a more-permanent fix. A video of him limping has since garnered more than 18,400 likes and thousands of views online.
Irene Lee, a spokesperson for The Cat House Lounge (@thecathouselounge), told Newsweek: “I was concerned Soy Sauce may be overlooked by potential adopters because of his leg injury so I posted a TikTok video, which I shared on Instagram and Facebook. I’m so happy that people watched his video and was moved by how special he is.”
Lee said that Soy Sauce quickly won over everyone’s hearts. He got along well with the more than 20 cats roaming the lounge, was gentle with kittens, and loved to playfully wrestle with his feline friend Wayne, another tuxedo cat.
Lee said that The Cat House Lounge partners with several rescue organizations to provide a comfortable, kennel-free environment for adoptable felines. Soy Sauce came from one such partner, St. Sophia’s Forgotten Felines, where a spokesperson said that the cat’s limp was the result of a past injury, likely sustained after being thrown from a car.
When the rescue first brought him in, staff members were concerned by his limp, but Soy Sauce’s charm and resilience quickly shone through. After his video began circulating online, one viewer traveled over an hour to meet him—and adopted him on the spot.
“All of us at The Cat House were thrilled to see it was Soy Sauce’s time to go home,” Lee said, adding that the lounge, which opened in July 2024, has already facilitated over 400 adoptions. “This was my mission for opening TCH. I wanted to provide a comfortable, loungelike setting to meet adoptable cats outside of kennels.”
Instagram users were quick to express their emotions in the comments.
“How anyone could throw ANY cat out of a moving car is beyond me but especially a Tuxie!?! The sweetest cats ever,” posted Sarah.
“So glad he found a loving home,” commented Michael.
“Aww my Peggy also has a permanent limp and she lives an incredible life! We give her a joint supplement and otherwise you’d never know she’s disabled from the amount of real crime she does,” another cat lover wrote.
“Growing up as a child my mom and aunt were driving in pouring rain—I was in the back seat—at a stop sign the car in front of us threw a little dog out a window—my aunt immediately got out and scooped him up—that dog lived for many years with her family and was loved so much,” added one viewer.
“He is so adorable. Thank you for rescuing him and loving him and giving him a loving home. Love you, Soy Sauce,” added Janice.
