Tears at What Owner Does for Dog Who Loves People Watching: ‘Had To Help’

A video capturing a dog owner’s “sweet” gesture for her pup who loves people watching has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was shared by Charlotte Biseth (@charlottebiseth) and has amassed more than 1.3 million views since it was posted on May 20.

Text overlaid on the video reads: “My dog loves people watching but can’t find the perfect spot.” The clip shows a black Labrador resting his head on a ledge while sitting up on a bench. He is later seen laying on a floor, joined by a dog-shaped plush doll, while peeping through a slit at the bottom of a fence.

“So I had to help him out,” the text continues, as Biseth is shown drawing a circle across two panels on the fence before using a hand saw to carve out a lookout hole.

The owner later encourages the pup to check out his new peep hole, and the dog is shown poking his head through it before the clip ends.

The pup’s love for people watching comes as no surprise as Labradors have an “innate eagerness,” describes the American Kennel Club (AKC), the world’s largest purebred dog registry.

The “famously friendly” Labrador breed is known to “socialize well with neighbor dogs and humans alike,” the AKC says.

Their easygoing personality, however, should not be mistaken for low energy. “The Lab is an enthusiastic athlete that requires lots of exercise, like swimming and marathon games of fetch, to keep physically and mentally fit,” the AKC notes.

While some dogs, such as the one in the viral clip, might love laying low for people watching, keeping our canine friends active is important for their health.

An August 2022 study published in PLOS One noted that “dogs who exercise less frequently or less intensely are more likely to be overweight …” and “a more holistic approach to changing both dietary and exercise routine needs to be made” to both treat and prevent obesity in dogs.

Viewers on TikTok were delighted by the dog owner’s thoughtful gesture for her pup.

SallyM said: “I love the way he immediately understood that it was his spot to people watch.”

JenniePan wrote, “This is SO sweet!” and another user, known as me, simply said: “omg [oh my God] priceless. love.”

Luna Mc noted, “His little face,” while perky.bliss said it’s “Such a great idea for your friend.”

🇭🇺 Bella 🇭🇺 noted, “he needs a hole to lie down and watch,” and the original poster replied: “More holes is coming.”

User enri added: “So sweet. But the hole for the plushie is still missing.” The original poster replied: “Coming up.”
