Tiger Woods’ Virtual Golf League Gets Glowing Review from Unexpected Source
Phil Mickelson is not only one of the most prominent faces of LIV Golf, but also one of its most ardent promoters and defenders. In the process, that has brought the league to where it is today. There has been no shortage of criticism from Mickelson of the PGA Tour, its rules and policies.
As such, the 54-year-old legend’s opinion of one of the PGA Tour’s newest products, the TGL, has been nothing short of shocking.
‘Lefty’ used his X account, which has more than 880,000 followers, to lavish praise on the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy-led, high-tech-based golf league.
“It would be great for golf if this were to succeed,” Mickelson posted. “The golf fan is the most loyal fan in sports. Buy a ticket, walk miles and see a fraction of the action, but this could allow the golf fan to buy a ticket, sit down and watch 100% of the action just like other sports. It could really be good for the game if it’s compelling.”
That’s great news! It would be great for golf if this were to succeed. The golf fan is the most loyal fan in sports. Buy a ticket, walk miles and see a fraction of the action, but this could allow the golf fan to buy a ticket, sit down and watch 💯 of the action just like other…

Most fans were not expecting such a reaction from Mickelson, but they were quick to seize on the range of possibilities it suggested. More than a few wondered if the six-time major champion would play in the TGL next season, or if he would be involved in some other way.
“You getting involved by any chance Phil?,” @kwipiter asked.
“Phil I hope you get to play in TGL.. would be phenomenal TV,” @seth_callaway posted.
“Love to see you play in TGL Season 2 Phil,” @paulapp2112 said.
Mickelson is the third LIV Golf star to show a positive view of the TGL in one way or another. A few weeks ago, Brooks Koepka visited the SoFi Center, the league’s home, and attended one of its matches as a spectator.

In addition, Koepka has invested in the Locker Room investment fund, which has a stake in TMRW Sports, the company owned by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Mike McCarley that runs the TGL. Koepka is thus no less than one of the investors in the new league.
Previously, it was Bryson DeChambeau who spoke positively about the TGL.
“I think TGL has an interesting opportunity,” DeChambeau said, according to The Mirror. “I’m all about anything to grow the game, so if it’s helping grow the game, fantastic. I don’t know all the numbers behind it.”
“Would it be fun? Yeah, it could be fun. I don’t know if they’d pick me though, I have no idea. I’ve got a [LIV] team over here, the Crushers GC, come on. The Crushers would be a part of that!”
The inaugural season of the TGL concluded on Tuesday with Atlanta Drive Golf Club sweeping New York Golf Club in the best-of-three final series. Although both matches were wins for Atlanta, they were very close, ending with scores of 6-5 and 4-3.
