U.S. to restart intelligence sharing and security assistance to Ukraine immediately
The United States will immediately lift a pause on intelligence sharing with Ukraine and resume providing security assistance to Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s government in Kyiv as his forces attempt to repel Russian troops more than three years after Moscow’s invasion.
In a joint statement, the U.S. and Ukraine said Kyiv “expressed readiness to accept the U.S. proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by” Russia.
“The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace,” the joint statement went on to say.
The future of U.S. support for Ukraine has been in doubt since an extraordinary on-camera spat between President Donald Trump and Zelenskyy in the Oval Office on Feb. 28. In the wake of that confrontation, Trump’s administration paused intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
