Unemployment rate at 4.3 percent
In June 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 679 thousand. The number of unemployed persons was 212 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.3%.
In the period April–June 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 661 thousand, 49 thousand fewer than a year earlier. The number of employed people was down by 29 thousand among males, being 2 million 472 thousand, and by 20 thousand among females, 2 million 189 thousand. The decrease in the so-called prime working-age population (25-54 year-olds) played a decisive role in the decline.
4 million 490 thousand people worked in the domestic primary labour market, 57 thousand fewer than in the same period of the previous year, while the number of public workers and those working abroad did not change in merit, being 66 thousand and 105 thousand.2
The employment rate for 15-64 year-olds was practically unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year at 74.9%, with a simultaneous decrease in the population and employment. The rate was 78.8% for men and 71.0% for women.
In the April–June period of 2025 the number of unemployed people aged 15–74 was 219 thousand, with an unemployment rate of 4.5%.2
The number of unemployed was 120 thousand for males and 99 thousand for females. The rate was essentially the same for both sexes as in April–June of the previous year, with 4.6% for men and 4.3% for women.2
The average duration of job search was 12.2 months, 41.3% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 31.8% had not found a job for at least a year.
According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers at the end of June 2025 decreased by 1.4% to 220 thousand compared to a year earlier.
