United States Senator Hails Cadillac’s Formula 1 Entry In 2026
A new team will be added to the Formula 1 grid in 2026, with the FIA and Formula 1 rubber-stamping the arrival of Cadillac as F1’s 11th race team.
Last year, General Motors had reached an agreement in principle with F1 and the governing body of motorsport, the FIA, to permit their cars entry to the 2026 Formula 1 season under the Cadillac banner. Now that agreement has been officially ratified, with the team receiving formal approval to join the grid for the 2026 campaign.

The team had initially submitted its bid as Andretti-Cadillac, with General Motors providing technical support. But after pushback from F1, the bid was reimagined under the Cadillac brand, with GM oversight, and was subsequently accepted by F1 and the FIA.
Cadillac’s entry into the Formula 1 paddock was celebrated on social media by Senator Amy Klobuchar, who was one of a number of politicians who called for an investigation into why the initial bid was pushed back.
“Last year, I took a stand with my colleagues when the General Motors racing team was excluded from the F1 world championship series,” Klobuchar posted on X.

I’m glad that F1 has reversed course & allowed an all-American team to compete. This is a win for competition, American manufacturing, & F1 fans!— Senator Amy Klobuchar (@SenAmyKlobuchar) March 7, 2025

The news will be music to the ears of U.S. F1 fans, who will have a home-grown race team to support in 2026. It also opens the door for another American driver to potentially make it to the F1 grid following the departure of Logan Sargeant from Williams Racing in 2024.
A joint statement from F1 and the FIA said that Cadillac had been accepted as F1’s 11th team “following the completion of their respective sporting, technical and commercial assessments.”
Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said, “As we said in November, the commitment by General Motors to bring a Cadillac team to F1 was an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport.
“I want to thank GM and TWG for their constructive engagement over many months and look forward to welcoming the team on the grid from 2026 for what will be another exciting year for Formula 1.”

The Cadillac team will initially run Ferrari engines while the team establishes its presence in the F1 paddock. But Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, has given a commitment to produce its own powertrain from its U.S. base before 2030.
The team itself will be based at Silverstone in England, while plans are in place for the new team to build its own engines from a new facility in Charlotte, North Carolina.
