USA Women Make History With Remarkable Olympic Victory
The Team USA women’s curling team made history on Friday.
With a 10th-end comeback, the Americans took home a 9-8 victory over Team Canada in a round-robin matchup. It was the USA women’s first-ever Olympic win over their northern rival. Tabitha Peterson helped power the triumph on the final stone, sending the Americans to their remarkable success.
“Great time to beat a No. 1 team,” said Peterson after the game, per Reuters. “It was a good battle.”

Team USA’s win was its first in 10 chances against Team Canada, which had previously dominated the rivalry series at the Olympic Games. What made Friday’s victory even more shocking was that the Canadians are the world’s top-ranked team.
The team is composed of Taylor Anderson-Heide, Tara Peterson, Tabitha Peterson and Cory Thiesse.
“I think we just played a really good game,” Anderson-Heide said, per ESPN. “They’re No. 1 in the world.”

It’s been a good start to the Olympics for the USA curling team, as Thiesse and Korey Dropkin took silver in the mixed doubles tournament. The pair is the first American team to earn an Olympic medal in the discipline. Thiesse, who became the first USA woman to ever medal in curling, is also a member of the women’s team that took down Team Canada.
The USA women have a few matches remaining in the round-robin stage before heading to the semifinal round next weekend. The Americans are 2-1 through three matches at the Olympics.
