Walmart Stabbing: Video Appears to Show Suspect Being Confronted

Videos of what appears to be a confrontation with a suspect in the Michigan Walmart stabbing have emerged.

The footage, captured in a Walmart parking lot, show a man being approached by several people who shout at him to put down a knife.

The images come after 11 people were injured in a stabbing at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, before a suspect was taken into custody by the police.

Newsweek contacted the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police and Walmart for comment via email.

The Context

In a Saturday press conference, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that six male and five female victims were injured in the attack, with three currently undergoing surgery. The man taken into custody was confirmed to be “a 42 year old male, acting alone.”

What To Know

In the video, several people can be seen surrounding a man, shouting “throw the knife away.”

The man can then be seen being put into a police car, while someone says in the background “several people have been stabbed.”

This would appear to match the official report from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s office, which said that a man was taken into custody following the stabbing, and that “citizens in Walmart also assisted in the apprehension and treatment of victims.”

However, authorities have not confirmed who the man taken into custody is, or if he is the person in the video.

Munson Medical Center, a hospital in the area, confirmed that they had received 11 patients from the scene of the stabbing, and were treating them, in a statement that reads: “Munson Healthcare is aware of the tragic incident that occurred earlier today at the Walmart in Traverse City.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this event, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement for their swift action. We can confirm that 11 victims are being treated at Munson Medical Center. As a result, our Emergency Department is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of patients.”

What People Are Saying

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said on X, formerly Twitter: “I’m in touch with law enforcement about the horrible news out of Traverse City. Our thoughts are with the victims and the community reeling from this brutal act of violence. I am grateful to the first responders for their swift response to apprehend the suspect.”

What Happens Next

Local authorities have said they will release more information on the incident in the near future.
