Warriors Announce Unfortunate Steph Curry Injury News
Stephen Curry is currently dealing with a knee injury, which has held him out of several games for the Golden State Warriors lately.
Unfortunately, Curry is on pace to miss time through the All-Star break. Golden State’s head coach, Steve Kerr, also confirmed that Curry will not be a part of the All-Star game this year. The star guard was officially diagnosed with patellofemoral pain syndrome last week.
The Warriors are set to take on the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. The game will mark the fourth matchup in a row that Curry will miss.
His last outing occurred on January 30, when the Warriors hosted the Detroit Pistons. At the time, Curry checked in for 25 minutes. He shot 43 percent from the field, scoring 23 points. After leaving the game to get evaluated, Curry was ruled out for the remainder of the matchup. The Pistons defeated the Warriors 131-124.
Since Curry has been out, the Warriors have struggled in his absence. Although they managed to take care of business against the Phoenix Suns on February 5 with a 101-97 win, the Warriors lost their two matchups against the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Curry has missed scattered matchups over time this year. In games without him, the Warriors are 5-9. While they seem optimistic that his setback shouldn’t be long-term, they haven’t been in great shape in his absence.
This season hasn’t gone as planned for the Warriors, and injuries have played a part in that. The team’s star forward, Jimmy Butler, suffered an ACL tear and will miss the rest of the year, as he underwent surgery this week.
At this point, the Warriors are 28-25 on the year. They have one more game left beyond Monday’s action, and it will take place on Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs at home. It’s unclear if Curry could return in time for the Warriors’ first game back on February 19, but Golden State will be sure to keep him recovering throughout the break to make sure he returns in better shape.
In addition to Curry, the Warriors are hopeful to have their trade acquisition, Kristaps Porzingis, back by then as well. After trading with the Atlanta Hawks to land him, Porzingis recently claimed he looks forward to hitting the ground running after the break. Perhaps Curry will have enough rest and recovery by then to join him.
