Where ‘Grounded’ Golden Retriever Puppy Chooses To Nap Melts Hearts
While a bed may certainly be comfortable, the unusual location that a golden retriever puppy chose for a hard-earned nap has melted hearts across the internet.
A video of the sweet pup, named Lilo, was shared on her dedicated TikTok account (@lilo.thegoldiegirl) on February 11. While Lilo may have been pretty tired at the time, she chose not to go and curl up in her soft bed or even settle somewhere cozy like the couch inside her home on the Gold Coast, Australia.
Instead, she opted to climb into an outdoor plant pot and lay directly in the soil. It didn’t look particularly comfortable or warm, but it seemed to work just as well for Lilo, who looked rather proud of her new resting spot.
Social media users can’t get enough of her endearing antics, and the TikTok video has received over 67,300 views and more than 11,400 likes at the time of writing.
Newsweek has contacted @lilo.thegoldiegirl via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.
Even Lilo’s owner appeared slightly perplexed by the pup’s choice of nap spot. The caption alongside the clip jokes that Lilo does indeed have her own bed, but she “chose the pot” entirely of her own accord. In a follow‑up comment, the owner explained that Lilo is “always looking for something cool” to help her escape the warmth—something that would make a shaded, soil‑filled flowerpot surprisingly appealing.
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), puppies sleep far more than adult dogs—typically 18 to 20 hours per day—because their bodies and brains are developing rapidly. Sleep supports growth of the central nervous system, muscles, and immune system, and helps puppies process all the new experiences they encounter each day. The AKC also notes that puppies don’t always pay attention to an internal clock telling them to rest, which means they may simply collapse into sleep wherever exhaustion hits—whether that’s a dog bed, a crate, or, in Lilo’s case, an outdoor flower pot.
Overly tired puppies become overstimulated and even fall asleep unexpectedly in any quiet, cool, or secluded spot they find. Lilo’s creative snoozing spot is therefore entirely normal—and, to dog lovers, undeniably adorable.
In the days since the video took off, internet users have become obsessed with Lilo’s exhausted decision‑making, leading to more than 70 comments on the post already.
One comment reads: “She loves to be grounded.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “The cutest thing I’ve seen today.”
Another person joked: “Why did you plant a tree in her bed?”
While one commenter added: “You’re gonna need a bigger flowerpot.”
