Woman Gets Door Cam Alert About Black Bear—What She Finds Stuns Her
A woman was left stunned when she received a notification alerting her to a bear on her lawn, but nothing could have prepared her for what she would actually see on the monitor.
Door cameras are a great way to detect when someone is approaching the house or when a parcel has been delivered while you’re out. For TikTok user @brassycarameldrizzle, her Ring doorbell typically sends alerts about routine activity outside her home. But on this occasion, the device flagged what it believed was “notable activity” on the back lawn—complete with the alarming description: “A black bear is lying on the lawn.”
Understandably startled, she opened the app to check the footage immediately. Instead of a bear, she was greeted by an image of her black, fluffy dog calmly stretched out in the grass, guilty of nothing more than enjoying a tranquil nap.
Finding the mix‑up too hilarious not to share, the amused TikTok user posted the alert alongside the camera footage. The combination of the dramatic notification and the reality—a harmless, snoozing pup—quickly struck a chord online. At the time of writing, the video has amassed more than 102,600 views and 22,200 likes on TikTok.
Newsweek has contacted @brassycarameldrizzle via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.
There may not have been a black bear in the backyard, but the creator joked that she would still give her Ring camera “an A for effort.”
While the dog’s breed wasn’t specified, many fluffy, black-coated breeds—such as Newfoundlands, flat-coated retrievers and Portuguese Water Dogs—are known for their large silhouettes and dense fur, which can exaggerate their size on camera. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), black-coated breeds with heavy feathering or thick double coats can appear especially bulky in low‑resolution or outdoor footage, sometimes leading to humorous misidentifications.
How Did TikTok Users React?
With smart home devices becoming increasingly common, accidental misidentifications like this are only growing more frequent—and far more entertaining for the rest of the internet. Social media users can’t get enough of the hilarious confusion, and the viral post has already generated more than 60 comments from amused viewers.
One commenter reads: “I see that your Ring doorbell catastrophizes as much as me.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “Omg, I’m glad you made it out safely. That’s one dangerous-looking bear.”
Another person replied: “The camera wasn’t overreacting at all.”
While one commenter jested: “The message and the image need to be framed!”
