Woman Orders Cake Because Thought Husband Would Get a Promotion, but There’s a Problem

A TikTok video has gone viral for its humorous portrayal of a woman’s cake mishap after her husband’s anticipated promotion didn’t materialize.

The original poster, Bibi, @bibiyadee, posted the video of her and her husband laughing at the cake’s arrival on February 9. It has since been viewed more than two million times and received over 140,000 likes on TikTok.

In the video, Bibi and her husband sit around their dining table laughing at the cake in the center, which says “Yey!”. Over the footage, a clumsy rendition of “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion plays in the background, matching the tone of failure in the video.

Despite the unexpected rejection, the couple proceeds with cutting the cake, albeit in a comically defeated way. The husband’s slicing of the cake starts in the middle and continues sloppily to the outside.

Viewers of the video were amused by the couple’s lighthearted response to the disappointing turn of events. Many voiced words of support for Bibi’s husband and his career, and praised Bibi for believing in her husband so fully by ordering the cake before the promotion was secured.

“Not the heart break … Inshallah better opportunities in store for him!” @bigworldsmalllady wrote.

“I think it’s sweet that you have so much faith in him!!!!!!!!! Better opportunities will definitely come,” @sw3tha24 wrote.

“The biggest win for him is having a wife who is clearly dedicated to him and believes in him no matter what,” @aysh83928 wrote.

Despite the erratic cutting, Bibi confirmed that the couple did like the cake.

“But the cake was delicious!” she captioned the video.

Many commenters, though sympathetic, were happy that Bibi’s husband at least had cake to eat after receiving the news.

“Every situation is a cake situation … good or bad,” @lebogangmanthoadi wrote.

Some even thought Bibi should’ve covered her bases somehow in advance, or by making up a story at the last moment.

“This is why you order two [cakes],” TikToker @moitshekiiii wrote.

One user suggested Bibi should have saved it by telling her husband it was for a different celebration.

As the video continues to circulate on social media, it serves as a reminder of the importance of keeping a lighthearted perspective in the face of unexpected challenges or disappointments—and of doing it together. Commenters—whether praising Bibi or pitying her husband—echoed this sentiment.

“Bitter memories become bitter sweet when you share them with a loved one,” user @thevelvetledger wrote.
