Woman Receives Mystery Valentine at Work, Internet Rushes to Find Clues

An anonymous Valentine’s Day card sent to a woman’s workplace has sparked a widespread online investigation.

After she shared the mystery with Reddit users, her post went viral with 8,500 upvotes and over 3,000 comments. The card, sent by someone she doesn’t know, arrived two days before Valentine’s Day, and the only clue inside was a cryptic message reading “? 89.3.”

“Someone I don’t know sent me a Valentine’s Day card,” the original poster (OP) wrote on the r/AskUK subreddit. “I doubt that it’s one of my coworkers, but I was unable to determine. Also, I have no idea what the letter says. Maybe any of you can guess what it means?”

Another user proposed that “89.3” might be a reference to the Dewey Decimal system. However, after further research, this theory fell short as “893” in the Dewey Decimal system corresponds to “Non-Semitic Afro-Asiatic literatures,” which seemed unrelated.

One Redditor suggested that the numbers could symbolize something deeper.

“89×3=26…2=we, 6=belong, 7=together (it’s 8 letters, that’s why it’s not right but maybe possibly in this direction?),” they wrote, unveiling their intricate logic.

Another Redditor reflected at length on how captivated they were with the situation.

“Mate, I’ve thought about this way too much, and I’m starting to think whoever sent this has been playing 4D chess with your sanity,” they wrote. They elaborated on the strange numerology behind the numbers, suggesting that the “8” symbolizes karma and cycles, the “9” represents closure and the “3” stands for communication and creativity.

The OP, who has since made several updates to her investigation, offered her own insights. She wrote that she had already explored numerous avenues, including checking phone numbers and listening to local radio stations.

“I’ve tried sketching it with a pencil as some of you said to do it and looking through the light to see any hidden word, but there’s still no sign,” she commented.
