‘Wordle’ #878, Hints and Answer for Tuesday, November 14 Puzzle

We may never get tired of playing Wordle, but some of the daily puzzles are trickier than others, and we can all do with some help from time to time. Don’t worry if you occasionally struggle, as Newsweek can lend a hand.

The daily word game became available to the public in 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic and became an instant hit after originally being invented by Josh Wardle years ago as a private game for himself and his girlfriend, who loves doing puzzles.

The premise is simple, everyday at midnight a new five-letter word appears on the Wordle website and you have try to guess it in six attempts or less. A color-coded system of tiles helps players along every step of the way. A tile turns green if it is a correct letter in the right place, yellow if it’s in the word but in the wrong place, or gray if it is incorrect.

Wordle is a game where the process of elimination is key, so one handy hint for strategy is to make sure your second guess does not repeat letters contained in your first.

But make sure you remember that letters can appear more than once in a word, and if you’re into data crunching, looking at guess statistics can help you build a better strategy.

“Your statistics board will show the number of games you played, your percentage of wins, your current streak and your longest streak,” the New York Times, which now owns Wordle suggests. “Focus on the guess distribution. If you’re starting with the same word every time and it’s not panning out, kickoff tomorrow’s Wordle with a new word.”

Once you’ve solved Wordle and are waiting for it to reset at midnight, you could give another word-based puzzle game a try, such as Quordle. Or, if you’re a geography or math whiz, you can give Worldle or Nerdle a go.

Here are some tips for today’s answer, but be warned, the solution appears later, so scroll down with caution if you want to work it out for yourself.
