The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly attempting to trade third baseman Nolan Arenado this year.
Arenado has a lot of money attached to his contract, as well as a no-trade clause, which is seemingly making it quite difficult to trade him away. Either way, it’s likely the Cardinals will increase their willingness to deal him away as the season goes by.
Jared Bloom of Sportskeeda recently predicted the New York Yankees would be the team to eventually land Arenado, despite not being on his list of preferred destinations yet.

“The St. Louis Cardinals have spent the MLB offseason looking for suitors for Nolan Arenado,” Bloom wrote. “They are looking to clear up some space and focus on their younger players. The New York Yankees could come into play as a trade partner. They have a hole at third base, and Arenado would be an excellent addition as the club looks to hoist their 28th MLB World Series title.”
The Yankees have reportedly been in pursuit of Arenado for quite some time now, and it makes a lot of sense. New York’s biggest hole is in the infield, and Arenado would fill it in a big way.
While his bat has trended down slightly, he’s still one of the best infield defenders in the history of the game. Adding a secure glove to lead the defense alongside Anthony Volpe on the left side of the infield would be huge. Not to mention, Arenado’s bat would fit into the middle of the lineup very well.
Arenado would need to clear a trade to the Yankees, though, which might not be the most likely outcome.
