Yankees Predicted To Cut Ties With $90 Million D.J. LeMahieu Infielder Before Long

The New York Yankees began the offseason by losing Juan Soto to the New York Mets.

But they’ve bounced back with a plethora of moves to push the team in the right direction. They may not be as talented on paper as the Los Angeles Dodgers are, but the Bronx Bombers are certainly World Series contenders.

And they may not be done altering their roster just yet.

FanSided’s Joseph Kallan recently predicted the Yankees would cut ties with veteran infielder D.J. LeMahieu before the end of manager Aaron Boone’s new contract extension.

“One of the biggest mysteries on the Yankees’ roster is DJ LeMahieu — who went from a slugging sensation to a player fans hope stays out of the lineup,” Kallan wrote. “Injuries plagued LeMahieu throughout 2024, and when he was on the field, he struggled to produce. Across just 67 games, he slashed a dismal .204/.269/.307, with only two home runs and 26 RBIs. His -1.6 WAR marked a drastic fall from his All-Star caliber form.

“A career .289 hitter, LeMahieu’s decline leaves him with little room to prove he still belongs in the lineup. Boone values his veteran presence, but at 36 years old, his future in the Bronx — and even in the MLB — looks uncertain. If his production doesn’t improve, it would shock no one if he’s out of the league by the time Boone’s extension expires.”

LeMahieu was once a huge piece of the New York lineup, but now he’s a name that most Yankee fans hate to see penciled in.

If the veteran infielder gets off to a rough start to begin the 2025 campaign, the Yankees could look to move on from him. And who could blame them?

It’s hard to imagine the Yankees hang onto him for much longer.
