Yankees Predicted To Pursue Padres Luis Arráez In Blockbuster Move
The New York Yankees have done a tremendous job in recovering after losing superstar Juan Soto in free agency. They’ve filled just about every hole on their roster except for a few slots in the bullpen and one hole in the infield.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently reported the Yankees were eyeing a blockbuster trade for San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arráez. The Padres infielder would fill the final hole in New York’s lineup in a huge way.
“They signed left-hander Max Fried for eight years and $218 million. They traded for closer Devin Williams, then center fielder Cody Bellinger,” Passan wrote. “They gave Paul Goldschmidt $12.5 for one year and added a couple more players to their bullpen via trade and free agency. The Yankees are unquestionably a deeper team — and they’re not done, either. They’ve continued to discuss Luis Arráez with San Diego and inquired about Gavin Lux, whom the (Los Angeles Dodgers) could trade, to fill their open second-base slot.”
Arráez is a three-time batting champion after winning the award with three different ball clubs. He holds a career slash line of .323/.372/.418 with an OPS+ of 118. His OPS+ has been above the league average in each of his six big league seasons.
He may not be an elite defender, but the left-handed swinger is projected to settle for around $14 million for the 2025 season. The Bronx Bombers likely wouldn’t have to part ways with any elite prospects to acquire the 27-year-old either.
