Yankees Urged To Trade For Pirates Utility Man By Ex-MLB Executive

The New York Yankees need reinforcements at second base or third base as the deadline approaches. With Jazz Chisholm Jr. returning to the lineup on Tuesday night, the Yankees were set to receive help at one of the two positions.
Chisholm played third base for the Yankees last season after being acquired by the Miami Marlins and could help narrow their search for a utility man.

Ex-MLB executive Zack Scott shared a couple of players on the market that the Yankees should target, one of them being Isiah Kiner-Falefa of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kiner-Falefa spent time with the Yankees in 2022 and 2023 before leaving the Bronx for the Toronto Blue Jays last season. Kiner-Falefa was traded to the Pirates at the deadline last year and was hitting .303 on the season for the Pirates entering Tuesday.
Kiner-Falefa would be the most versatile option at the deadline for the Yankees. The Yankees were working Chisholm at third base during his recent rehab starts in the minors, in preparation for a potential move. With the injury to third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera, the Yankees are looking to fill the void, and allowing Chisholm to get reps while working back from an injury will allow them to be the most flexible upon his return.
Kiner-Falefa is on an expiring contract and would be a versatile fit in the Yankees’ lineup, slotting in where the team needs him. This could also spell the end of DJ LeMahieu’s time in New York if he is unable to turn around his season.
