YouTube Star Ben Potter, Best Known As Comicstorian’s Cause of Death Age 40

The cause of YouTuber Ben Potter’s death has been revealed.

Best known by his YouTube handle Comicstorian, Ben Potter passed away on Saturday at the age of 40.

The Colorado State Patrol told TMZ that Ben Potter had been involved in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday morning. The accident occurred on the I-125 near Fort Collins, Colorado, with Potter succumbing to his injuries.

What Happened to Ben Potter?

Officials said Ben Potter had been driving a Toyota 4Runner SUV when it “crossed the other side of the interstate,” hurtling off the right shoulder and repeatedly rolling over.

Ben Potter, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was the only person in the vehicle at the time. Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved.

On Monday, the influencer’s wife, Nathalie Potter, announced his passing on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter.

“Two days ago, on June 8th, my husband, Ben Potter, passed away in an unfortunate accident,” she posted to the site, on her late husband’s account.

“To many of you, he was Comicstorian, voicing stories from across multiple different mediums. To his loved ones, he was one of the best and most supportive individuals anyone could ask for.”

Nathalie Potter described her husband as “loving and genuine” to everyone, whether they were a friend, relative or a stranger.”

“He was someone who would listen and make time for his loved ones,” she said. “He would do his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were okay. He was our rock and he’d reassure his loved ones whenever they needed it.”

Nathalie Potter said her husband “was her world,” and asked that his fans respect his family’s privacy while they processed his death. She described his YouTube success as one of his “greatest accomplishments,” and that she intended to “preserve everything that he built.”

“Ben spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies,” she said. “It was through his love of exciting stories and well written characters that got him started on YouTube.

“The team and I want to keep that going. To honor him by continuing to tell great stories by great people, as well as to keep the memory of our very own superhero alive.

“We supported each other on everything we wanted to do and I’m not about to stop now.”

Since being shared on Monday, Nathalie Potter’s post has received over 11.3 million views.

A lover of comics, Ben Potter hosted a popular YouTube channel on the subject, with over 3 million followers on the platform. However, his popularity was not just confined to YouTube—he had over 61,000 followers on Instagram and more than 63,000 followers on X.

His ability to explain complex storylines and character arcs in his videos helped to make the intricate world of comics accessible to viewers. His love of the genre also extended to film and TV, with Ben Potter having been a fan of Marvel and DC franchises such as Spiderman, Batman, X-Men, The Avengers and more.

The announcement of his death triggered an outpouring of grief and countless tributes from fans, with some big names also honoring him on social media.

Comic book author Scott Snyder wrote on X: “Completely stunned and deeply saddened to hear this. Benny’s love for comics was infectious and amazing to be around. My sincere condolences to his family.”

O’Shea Jackson Jr.—the son of rapper Ice Cube and his wife Kimberly Woodruff—also paid tribute, writing, “Rest in Peace to Comicstorian. I’m heartbroken to hear this news. One of my favorite follows on YouTube, thank you so much for your work man. I was a huge fan.”
