2 teens arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting girl in pharmacy bathroom, recording attack
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (TCN) — Two boys, ages 15 and 17, are in custody for allegedly raping a female acquaintance in a drugstore bathroom and recording the incident on a cellphone.
CBS News reports police were called to a Walgreens on Jan. 11 regarding a sexual assault. The victim, whose name and age have not been released, was in the bathroom when James Patterson, 17, and a 15-year-old boy who has not been named allegedly followed her in.
Patterson allegedly pinned the girl to the wall and pulled her pants down. She reportedly fought him off, but he allegedly pinned her again and punched her multiple times before sexually assaulting her, CBS reports. During the attack, the 15-year-old reportedly recorded the incident on his cellphone. After he recorded Patterson’s alleged attack, he allegedly assaulted the girl as well.
CBS News reports the girl was able to get away and alert employees for help, and her alleged attackers fled. Police, who believe that the girl was acquainted with the attackers, found and arrested both teens shortly after. Patterson reportedly had the victim’s cellphone with him.
The Daily Herald reports Patterson was charged as an adult with four counts of aggravated criminal assault and one count of robbery. The 15-year-old was charged as a juvenile with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, four counts of child sexual abuse material, and one count of criminal sexual assault.
In a statement, the DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said, “The charges filed against Mr. Patterson and his co-defendant are extremely serious. It is alleged that Mr. Patterson and his co-defendant repeatedly beat and violated the victim in the worst possible way. The physical and emotional pain allegedly inflicted on this young woman is unimaginable and it is my sincerest hope that she and her family receive the care they need to help them through this difficult time.”
CBS News reports Patterson is due in court Feb. 2 and the 15-year-old is due in court Jan. 27. They have both been ordered held in custody until those appearances.
