Ala. man allegedly hit missing mom twice with his car and burned her body
FLORENCE, Ala. (TCN) — A 28-year-old man was taken into custody this week after a woman’s remains were found at his home several days after she went missing.
Autumn Paige Strickland, 38, was reported missing and endangered to the Florence Police Department on May 18. She was reportedly last seen leaving a hotel just before 2 a.m. on May 17 wearing a black tank top and jean shorts.
Two days after her disappearance, on May 20, police arrested 28-year-old Logan Rogers in the 2200 block of North Wood Avenue for attempted murder.
Florence Police said in a news release that they believe Strickland was “intentionally struck by a vehicle,” though investigators were still searching for her body. Later that day, police announced they found human remains at the same North Wood Avenue address. The remains were sent to a lab for positive identification.
Following the developments in the case, officials upgraded his attempted murder charge to murder.
According to court records cited by AL.com, investigators allege Rogers struck Strickland twice with a Kia Soul in the 1600 block of North Wood Avenue. After hitting her, Rogers allegedly drove away, then returned 30 minutes later in a different vehicle. He reportedly put her body in a pickup truck and drove back to his house. AL.com reports detectives discovered human remains in a burn barrel on Rogers’ property.
Rogers was reportedly arrested this year for terroristic threats and domestic violence against his parents because he allegedly threatened to kill them. He is in custody at the Lauderdale County Jail without bond.
Judge Will Motlow reportedly wrote in the order denying bond, “Due to the brutal nature of the alleged offense and the defendant’s history of domestic violence, the court finds that no conditions or set of conditions can adequately ensure the safety of the public.”
