Arizona teen allegedly shot parents because he wasn’t happy with his childhood
CHANDLER, Ariz. (TCD) — A teen faces charges after allegedly shooting his parents this week because he wasn’t happy with his childhood.
According to the Chandler Police Department, the shooting occurred on the morning of Monday, May 13, and investigators identified 19-year-old Jeremiah Blair as the primary suspect. Blair’s mother called 911 at around 5:30 a.m. that day and reported that her son had shot her and her husband, KTVK-TV reports.
The victims were transported to a hospital and remain in stable condition.
When officers arrived on scene, Blair was reportedly waiting in the driveway and surrendered. Blair admitted to shooting his parents, saying he had been “upset over his upbringing,” according to KTVK. He also allegedly believed he was “not treated as he should have been as a child.”
Court documents reviewed by KTVK say Blair had planned to kill his parents for years, and he hid a gun in his closet. Blair reportedly brainstormed other ways to kill his parents but decided on using the handgun. According to KTVK, Blair initially arranged to shoot his parents on Mother’s Day, but he shot them the following morning instead.
At approximately 1 a.m. on May 13, Blair allegedly put the gun and a camera in the kitchen to record the attempted killing. According to KTVK, Blair reportedly waited for his parents to wake up, and his father came downstairs first. Blair then allegedly shot him before going upstairs and shooting his mother once.
Blair reportedly believed he had killed one of his parents even though both survived and neither needed surgery.
Police arrested Blair on two counts of attempted first-degree murder. He remain held in the Maricopa County Jail on $750,000 bond, KTVK reports.
