‘Beef about a girl’ leads to fatal shooting of 19-year-old man

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 42-year-old man was arrested this week for allegedly orchestrating an “ambush” that led to the death of a teenager.

According to Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez, on April 11, deputies responded to a mobile home park on Kellchris Lane in St. Cloud regarding a shooting, though they “didn’t have much to go on.” Soon after they arrived, deputies received a call from the University of Central Florida Hospital, and doctors confirmed Nekko Herrera was pronounced deceased. Another victim was airlifted to a second hospital for emergency surgery. He is reportedly in stable condition.

Detectives began investigating and learned the incident stemmed from “a group of young adults exchanging texts about an argument over a girl.” The group of men reportedly decided to meet up to “try to take care of the beef,” which allegedly led to suspect Orvill Osorio-Ortiz getting involved.

Lopez said Osorio-Ortiz armed himself with a Glock-style firearm and “planned an ambush” as he waited for the men who were arguing to meet up. A group of five teens drove by, and Osorio-Ortiz opened fire, striking Herrera and the second victim. One of the witnesses at the scene reportedly identified Osorio-Oritz as the shooter, and evidence at the scene allegedly linked him to it as well.

Deputies located Osorio-Ortiz in Pasco County and arrested him May 14 on one count of first-degree murder and four counts of attempted first-degree murder. He also was on probation for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Lopez said, “What started as beef about a girl ended in murder.”
