Brother and sister dead at convenience store in apparent murder-suicide: Police

APOPKA, Fla. (TCN) — A brother fatally shot his sister before killing himself at the convenience store where she worked, authorities say.

The Apopka Chief reports police responded to a service call on Feb. 6 at Griffin’s General Store, where they found two deceased individuals.

The Apopka Police Department announced, “Following a thorough investigation conducted by detectives, the incident has been determined to be a domestic murder-suicide involving two adult siblings. Investigators determined that the suspect fatally shot his sister before subsequently taking his own life. Evidence collected at the scene, witness statements, and forensic findings confirm that this was an isolated domestic violence incident between family members.”

WFTV identified them as Ezra Swift and Schenita Swift. Schenita Swift was a longtime employee of Griffin’s General Store, according to owner Maurice Griffin, WFTV reports. He said the siblings “bumped heads” when Ezra Swift visited the store.

Ezaria Swift, Ezra Swift’s daughter, said, “They were kind people, and they were loved people who did what they could to add their part to the community. It’s a lot. We’re trying, but two deaths at once is kind of shocking,” WKMG reports.
