Father’s girlfriend accused of killing 2-year-old boy in 1993 cold case
READING, Pa. (TCN) — Authorities recently arrested a 57-year-old woman on suspicion of killing her partner’s young child over three decades ago.
According to the Berks County District Attorney’s Office, on Jan. 8, 1993, a 2-year-old boy was transported to a hospital and pronounced deceased. He had reportedly sustained multiple blunt impact injuries to the head, as well as bruising in various stages of healing. The child’s death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators conducted interviews with the boy’s family and other individuals who knew the child, but the case went cold. At the time of the victim’s death, he reportedly lived with his father and his father’s “paramour,” Sandra Guadalupe-Castro.
The district attorney’s office, with assistance from the Reading Police Department, reopened the case this year and determined the child’s injuries were inflicted shortly before the boy died. Investigators determined the victim was only with Guadalupe-Castro in the hours before his death.
On Oct. 8, prosecutors announced that they charged Guadalupe-Castro with first- and third-degree murder. She was taken into custody at her home.
