Florida man allegedly chased door-to-door salesman and shot him until he ran out of bullets

BRANDON, Fla. (TCN) — A man has been arrested and charged following the shooting of a door-to-door salesman, authorities say.

On Feb. 18, police received reports of a shooting. When responding officers reached a townhome complex, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body, WWSB reports. The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital and treated. His injuries were reportedly not life-threatening.

The victim and a female colleague were reportedly soliciting phone services door-to-door when they arrived at the home of Reginald McGee, 38. McGee allegedly became verbally aggressive toward the victim’s colleague, and the two began to walk away, WWSB reports. At that point, McGee allegedly pulled a firearm out of his waistband and chased after the two salespeople, shooting until he ran out of ammunition.

The New York Post reports the salespeople worked for AT&T. While chasing them, McGee allegedly yelled he was going to kill them.

When deputies arrived at McGee’s home to take him into custody, he was allegedly still armed, WWSB reports. McGee was charged with second-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery, and discharging a firearm in public. The New York Post reports McGee initially pleaded self-defense before allegedly admitted to chasing down the salespeople.

The New York Post reports Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said, “This was a completely unnecessary escalation that left a man seriously injured simply for doing his job. When a disagreement turns into gunfire, that is a choice, and it is a criminal one.”
