Georgia man arrested after missing woman’s remains found on N.C. highway
LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (TCN) — Authorities recently arrested a Georgia man on suspicion of killing a woman who vanished nearly two years ago.
According to Lincoln County Sheriff Bill Beam, family members reported Candice Aufrecht missing after she was last seen at a restaurant in Lincolnton, North Carolina, on March 8, 2023. In February of this year, her remains were discovered on U.S. Highway 321 in Gaston County, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Upon further investigation, authorities identified Zachary Ramey of Blairsville, Georgia, as the primary suspect. The sheriff’s office sought a warrant for him in July for a 2023 weapons violation, and he was extradited from Georgia to Lincoln County.
According to Beam, while he was in jail, authorities were able to charge Ramey on July 17 with first-degree murder and concealment of death. He remains held without bond.
