LAPD blocks release of details in case of teen found dead in singer d4vd’s Tesla
LOS ANGELES (TCN) — The Los Angeles Police Department initiated a court order on Nov. 24 preventing the county coroner from releasing details about the death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose body was reportedly found in a Tesla registered to the singer d4vd.
The order blocks the release of the autopsy, cause and manner of death, and other details associated with the case, The Associated Press reports. LAPD Capt. Mike Bland says the order was put into place “so that our investigators get the information before the media and the public.”
Rivas Hernandez’s decomposed body was found in a plastic bag Sept. 8, one day after her birthday, inside an impounded Tesla belonging to the singer David Anthony Burke, known as d4vd, who was on tour at the time, according to People magazine. The car had reportedly been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood, and neighbors say it had been there for around a month.
The AP reports Rivas Hernandez had been dead “for an extended period of time” before her body was found.
She was last seen at her home in Lake Elsinore, California, in April 2024. She was reported missing three times that year, People magazine reports, but it is unknown where she was last seen before her body was discovered.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner identified Rivas Hernandez’s body and the cause of death was listed as “deferred,” People reports. A police source who spoke anonymously to People said LAPD detectives consider Burke a suspect in the case and that he has not cooperated with the investigation. However, the LAPD has not confirmed whether they consider Burke a suspect, People notes.
BET reports detectives served a search warrant at a home connected to Burke in September.
Burke’s final North American tour dates and upcoming European tour were canceled, per the AP.
