Man arrested for allegedly fatally shooting woman in 1989 cold case
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (TCN) — Police recently arrested a man on suspicion of killing a 36-year-old woman who was found dead in 1989.
According to the Annapolis Police Department, on Jan. 12, 1989, officers responded to a 911 call on Kensington Way, where they discovered Garnet Elizabeth Griffith deceased with an apparent gunshot wound. Despite investigators’ efforts over the years, the case remained cold for more than three decades and became one of the city’s longest-running investigations.
In a statement posted Oct. 9, police announced that they arrested William Cook Jr. in connection with Griffith’s death. He was taken into custody at his home and charged in the fatal shooting.
Chief of Police Ed Jackson stated, “This arrest brings some measure of closure to the victim’s family, and it shows our community that we will never stop fighting for justice. To all of the families still grieving from any open cold case, we will continue to investigate those and do everything in our power to bring those persons responsible for their murders to justice.”
