Man charged with murder, feticide after allegedly stabbing, beating pregnant girlfriend to death with baseball bat
ROME, Ga. (TCN) — A man allegedly stabbed and beat his pregnant girlfriend to death and then fled the scene with a woman he had recently met.
On Dec. 9, the Rome Police Department announced that a body was discovered near an apartment complex.
When they arrived, they found 20-year-old Kaylee Shackleford’s remains hidden under a blanket, according to Law & Crime.
Police say witnesses described seeing a red car leaving the scene. Officers pursued the vehicle and took the driver, 23-year-old Mystique Malachi Amaziah Taylor, into custody.
Taylor was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of another, Law & Crime reports. Also in the car was Rolanda Monique Edwards, who was charged with being party to a crime, concealing the death of another, and hindering apprehension of a criminal.
According to Law & Crime, detectives learned Edwards and Taylor had met online and recently started a relationship, despite Taylor being in a relationship with Shackleford.
During the bond hearing for Taylor and Edwards on Dec. 10, a judge said that Taylor allegedly stabbed Shackleford in the neck, chest, and face and then hit her over the head with a baseball bat, WXIA reports. Taylor was denied bond and Edwards was granted a $5,000 bond.
On Dec. 12, Taylor was charged with feticide after the investigation revealed Shackleford was pregnant at the time of her death, WVLT reports. Taylor had allegedly tried to hit Shackleford with his car in November.
According to WRGA, the investigation is ongoing and Taylor remains in custody.
