Man heard ‘yelling obscenities’ at infant daughter over Xbox sentenced in her death
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (TCN) — A 27-year-old man will spend decades behind bars in connection with the death of his infant daughter, who suffered dozens of rib fractures, a skull fracture, and a brain bleed.
The Commonwealth’s Attorney for Virginia Beach announced Oct. 6 that a judge sentenced La’Shaun Holloway to 50 years in prison with 20 suspended, leaving 30 years to serve. A jury convicted him in August 2024 of second-degree felony murder and child abuse.
According to prosecutors, on Dec. 20, 2019, Holloway was caring for his 2-month-old child when relatives “heard him yelling obscenities at the baby over an Xbox headset.” The child reportedly stopped crying and was discovered unresponsive shortly after. She was transported to a hospital, put on life support, and succumbed to her injuries days later.
The attorney’s office said the infant suffered multiple injuries, including 26 rib fractures in various stages of healing, bruising to her chest wall, a fractured clavicle, skull fracture, bruising to her skull, and a severe brain bleed. Medical professionals determined the injuries were caused by “abusive head trauma.”
Prosecutors noted that Holloway had previously been convicted of child abuse and neglect, eluding police, felony hit and run, and DUI. He has also been convicted of carrying a concealed weapon, petit larceny, a probation violation, and failure to appear.
