Man sentenced for trying to kill his ex and her new boyfriend
DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. (TCN) — A man will spend four decades behind bars for following his ex and trying to kill her and her new boyfriend approximately two years ago.
According to a Sept. 4 news release from the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office, Anjayvious Farmer received a sentence of 40 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections after previously pleading guilty to two counts of attempted murder.
On Sept. 3, 2023, Farmer reportedly drove to a gas station to find his former girlfriend and mother of his child. Prosecutors said the defendant’s ex-girlfriend was with her current boyfriend, and they tried to leave to “avoid a confrontation.” Farmer reportedly “pursued them as they pulled onto the roadway, eventually following them onto Interstate 55 heading north into DeSoto County” and fired multiple shots into their car.
According to the district attorney’s office, a bullet struck the driver, and they drove off the road. A citizen reportedly helped the victims, and Farmer fled. Both victims survived and made full recoveries.
Prosecutors said Farmer tried to hide his crimes by using a “stick and a cinder block to wedge down the accelerator of his vehicle,” and he “ran it off a steep embankment into a creek, where it was discovered several days later.” Farmer reportedly left the state, but authorities found him in Wisconsin.
District Attorney Matthew Barton said, “You can run, but you cannot hide from accountability in DeSoto County. Let this be a warning: If you commit acts of violence in DeSoto County, you will be caught, you will be prosecuted, and you will go to prison.”
