Mass. man accused of killing his mom and saying his arrest was ‘so funny’
AVON, Mass. (TCN) — A 22-year-old man is in custody for allegedly killing his mother, who was found dead in her pantry with a large knife near her body.
On March 4 at 4:22 p.m., Avon Police Department officers responded to a home regarding an unresponsive female, and when they arrived, they found a 53-year-old woman on the floor with injuries. Police noted there also were signs of a struggle. Medics declared the victim deceased at the scene.
According to Boston.com, the suspect, Thadeus Joseph, reportedly told his parents that he was taking time off work for mental health purposes because he was “going through some stuff,” including anxiety and ideas about self-harm.
On March 4, Joseph’s father received a call from his wife and the victim, Astrid Joseph, but Thadeus Joseph was holding the phone. Astrid Joseph could reportedly be heard telling her son to hand her the phone. Astrid Joseph’s husband tried calling back several times, but she never answered.
When he got home from work, he noticed one of their cars was missing and then found his wife in the kitchen with a bloody carving knife nearby. There was reportedly blood all over the kitchen and a second knife on the ground.
MassLive.com reports officers began searching for the missing car and eventually located it several hours later at a mall. Police arrested Thadeus Joseph without incident, but he allegedly became “extremely uncooperative.” The arrest report noted Joseph was “sarcastic,” attempted to lick officers, and made lewd comments to some of the female police at the scene. According to MassLive.com, Joseph urinated on the floor of the police station and caused other damage.
At one point, Joseph said, “This is so funny. All I had to do was kill my mom, and then this is it?”
Joseph is being held without bail.
