Roommate reportedly left Las Vegas woman’s body in freezer for several days after she died

LAS VEGAS (TCN) — A roommate is facing murder and drug-related charges for allegedly playing a role in a 68-year-old woman’s death and hiding her body in a freezer.
Las Vegas Metro Police said in a statement that on Nov. 6 at 11:41 a.m., their communications center received a call from a concerned individual asking officers to conduct a welfare check on a woman who lived on the 5500 block of Tres Piedras Road. Officers went to the home and tried to communicate with the woman, but no one responded. Police entered the home and reportedly spoke with two people who did not share information about her whereabouts.
Officers looked through the residence and discovered the victim’s remains in a freezer. Police detained the two individuals inside and arrested 37-year-old Daniel Roush for open murder. Court records show Roush is being charged with second-degree murder and possession of a controlled substance.
According to court records cited by KVVU-TV, the victim, Monique Gilbertson, reportedly met Roush at a local Home Depot and let Roush live with her in exchange for work around her house. Roush, who uses the name Jazzlynn, reportedly told police that Gilbertson “enjoyed her Kahlua drinks and took pain pills.”
KLAS-TV reports Gilbertson got “upset about how filthy Roush was” after they started living together. She reportedly evicted Roush on Oct. 22 and changed the locks to her house. The person requested the welfare check said Gilbertson had not been heard from since around that same time.
When police went inside Gilbertson’s home, they reportedly found Roush with “a large amount of suspected drugs including fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, and apparent blood near the freezer.” Roush allegedly wanted to know if the Las Vegas Metro Police officers had a warrant to look inside the freezer. Then, Roush allegedly revealed they discovered Gilbertson deceased in a chair, so Roush “put her in the ice box.” Roush reportedly believes Gilbertson overdosed on fentanyl and cocaine that she bought from Roush.
